Materials that enable innovative energy conversion

The University of Tokyo has been actively promoting nanotechnology-related microstructural analysis and microfabrication research and development based at the Research Organization for Advanced Research and the Takeda Advanced Science Building on the Asano Campus.
So far, we have promoted the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Nanotechnology Network Project (2007-2011), Low Carbon Research Network Project (2011-2016), Nanotech Technology Platform Project (2012-2021), etc. In addition to producing top-level research results, we have accumulated many achievements in facility sharing and technical support for microstructure analysis and microfabrication.
In recognition of these series of achievements, our university was selected for the Advanced Materials Research Infrastructure Project of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology from 2021, and started activities as the University of Tokyo Materials Advanced Research Infrastructure Data Hub.
This hub will work closely with our spokes organizations, Hiroshima University and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency, with the aim of contributing to R&D and support in the technological field of "materials that enable innovative energy conversion." We are.
The development of energy-related materials is very important because it is directly linked to overcoming environmental problems, scarce resource problems, and the realization of carbon neutrality.
At this hub, in addition to sharing facilities and providing technical support for microanalysis and processing so far, we are highly collaborating with mdx (a data-based society creation platform) to collect and accumulate large-scale material data that supports materials informatics.・We will actively promote structuring and utilization.
We hope that these activities will accelerate material research in Japan and lead to the creation of materials that enable innovative energy conversion.

We appreciate your understanding and support.

What is Materials Advanced Research Infrastructure?

Materials Advanced Research Infrastructure Business

In recent years, in materials research and development, it has become important to make the research and development environment state-of-the-art in order to improve the efficiency, speed, and sophistication of research and development using data and to respond to more difficult issues. I'm here.In addition, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced in June XNUMX, "Towards the Government Strategy for Strengthening Material Innovation Power (Summary of the Strategy Preparatory Meeting)", which states that Europe, the United States and China will promote material research and development. It is necessary to actively invest in data-driven research in order to accelerate it, to utilize and upgrade the excellent foundations of the nanotechnology platform business, and to develop and enhance shared infrastructure throughout Japan. has been pointed out.In light of this situation, in order to further accelerate data-driven research and development in Japan as well, a system for efficiently and continuously creating and sharing high-quality data from industry, academia, and government, and such high-quality material data. We will establish a material research infrastructure platform that has a mechanism for strategically collecting, accumulating, distributing, and utilizing materials.

The University of Tokyo Key Technology Area Materials that enable innovative energy conversion

The development of highly efficient and highly functional energy materials is directly linked to overcoming environmental and resource conservation issues and achieving carbon neutrality. At this hub, in collaboration with Hiroshima University and JAEA, we have established a new research system that combines advanced microstructural analysis and microfabrication technology with mdx (a data-based society creation platform) in order to address these issues. I am takingFrom this, we will build an advanced material research infrastructure for developing materials that enable innovative energy conversion, supporting with advanced analysis and processing technology, and collecting, accumulating, structuring, and utilizing data.
